Can’t make it to New Orleans for Mardi Gras? You can still eat like a king with these fantastically colorful King Cakes! Beware of the baby though, because in every King Cake you’ll find one. It’s a historical tradition; if you find the little plastic baby trinket in your slice of cake you are designated King or Queen for the day and it symbolizes good luck & prosperity for the year to come. Just don’t chomp the baby!!!
Traditionally, these cakes are served on Fat Tuesday; a day where you can eat anything and everything you want before Ash Wednesday which is the opening of Lent - a period of fasting. So get your friends and family together because Fat Tuesday is today, February 25th.
We celebrated with these colorful cakes at a Mardi Gras themed event. Guests were delighted as little plastic babies were plucked out of cakes and the lucky finders could boast about their new found treasures. We served the delicious cakes with yummy homemade beignets for the grand dessert finale. The guests were on cloud 9 and the dessert feeding frenzy by Pure Joy Catering was a success!
Not to worry…No babies were harmed in the making of these cakes…
